S.M.A.R.T.™ Programs
It used to be that conflicts in our schools were talking in class, chewing gum, and rude behavior. Today we are increasingly experiencing random acts of violence and murder-suicides in our schools.
What is responsible for these new forms of violence? -- cultural differences, religious beliefs, or simply not understanding the issues facing our youth that inhibit their personal growth and hinder their learning process?
Among the obstacles our kids deal with every day are poverty, literacy, abandonment, poor parenting, broken families, addictions to drugs, alcohol and others substances, gang violence, peer pressures, and physical, mental and sexual abuse.
I know something about this, because I had to deal with these issues myself. I live in Fayetteville, North Carolina, and have six children who experienced various problems throughout their own educational journeys. I was unsatisfied with the end result in some of these situations, and I was sure other parents felt the same way. Turning to my professional expertise for a solution, I developed a program called S.M.A.R.T.™
Developing S.M.A.R.T.™ was a natural extension of my existing careert. For nearly 30 years, I have been training police, government, corrections, military, federal, state, and local authorities on how to respond to violence in the workplace, survive attacks, and respond to the active shooter.
Since introducing S.M.A.R.T.™ schools, students and parents, I have evaluated many school safety policies across the country, and have been horrified at how ill-prepared many schools are. Most schools in the United States still do not have safety procedures in place for handling situations including:
-
Intruders
-
Fists or brawls
-
Guns shots or knife attacks
-
Combative conflicts
-
How to talk to a violent attacker holding a weapon
-
Attacks on school busses
-
How to safely report incidents
S.M.A.R.T.™ is a 3-point approach to handling violence in the schools and educational system. It educates students in how to avoid violence and, if the times comes, how to safely respond to it.
S.M.A.R.T.™ educates teachers and parents to help prevent these kinds of incidents by enhancing skills that can help address the issues that provoke these attacks. By preventing dangerous situations from happening in the first place, our schools can be safer places where education and personal development thrive.
S.M.A.R.T.™ workshops include:
-
What to look for and how to report it
-
“Face the Danger”
-
How to be positive in a negative situation
-
What to say and how to say it
-
How to survive a violent attack
-
And much more!
Each S.M.A.R.T.™ program can be custom-designed to fit into any time parameters.
Upon competition of S.M.A.R.T.™ training, each participant receives a CD/DVD containing information for ongoing review. Tuition is based on a daily rate regardless of the number of students, teachers, or parents who attend.
